Comment
In these hard times for the licensed trade it is vital that the customers gain a good impression at first point of contact with staff, unfortunately at too many public houses they don't.
Of course an individual licensee cannot 'man' their particular bar at all times, slovenly employees will cost them money.

All bar staff working in pubs serving traditional beer by hand-pump should be taught how to use the system correctly, by using minimum effort and creating less spillage. It should be possible to dispense a pint in five 'pulls' at most.

GROUSE
, Keighley Road, Silsden,
the property has been leased and is now an Italian restaurant.

ILKLEY BREWERY remains, close to the railway station, are under threat from the proposal by Tesco to build a new superstore on the site of Spooner's factory on Railway Road. The brewery tower still stands, but now with broken windows, and the painted Ilkley Brewery sign is now very faded.
The business was established in 1873 as The Ilkley Brewery & Aerated Water Co. Ltd; in 1923 Hammond's Bradford Brewery Co. Ltd; bought the business which then owned 37 pubs.

Tesco's planning application for a huge structure on the Railway Road site was rejected by Bradford Council on the 3rd August but the company may make another application or appeal.

COPPER DRAGON, Snaygill Industrial Estate, Keighley Road, Skipton.  Copper Dragon website

Copper Dragon, work on a new purpose-built £2.5m 120-barrel brewhouse, doubling output, has been completed.
Four state-of-the-art 60-barrel fermentation vessels, are the focal point of the new facility.
The new equipment will complement the existing set-up that has led to Copper Dragon becoming one of the region's favourite brewers since its creation in 2002. Its production increased six-fold in its first six years. NAYLOR'S BREWERY, Midland Mills, Station Road, Cross Hills, near Keighley, BD20 7RN  WEBSITE

The business started by brothers Stephen & Robert Naylor at premises adjoining the Old White Bear.
In late 2006 they moved to Midland Mills, Station Road, Crosshills. An old industrial unit was converted into a brewhouse. Four fermenting vessels have been installed initially but this could eventually rise to a maximum of six. This will increase capacity from forty-five nine gallon casks per week to a capacity of 180 per week.
On the premises is a Beer Emporium & Home Brew supplies shop. The company's bottled beers are available along with a wide range of foreign brews. Draught beer for 'off sales' is also on offer (samples can be had while browsing). These are available in different sized casks or 'bag in a box' with hand pump hire if required.
