Comment
In these hard times for the licensed trade it is vital that the customers gain a good impression at first point of contact with staff, unfortunately at too many public houses they don't.
Of course an individual licensee cannot 'man' their particular bar at all times, slovenly employees will cost them money.

All bar staff working in pubs serving traditional beer by hand-pump should be taught how to use the system correctly, by using minimum effort and creating less spillage. It should be possible to dispense a pint in five 'pulls' at most.

BRADFORD, KEIGHLEY, AIRE/WHARFE NEWS

QUEENS HOTEL, Apperley Lane, Rawdon, has been taken over by the licensees from the Brewery Tap, Idle, Simon & Gary. They say a fine range of ales will be on sale along with a great new menu. The chef is using the finest fresh local produce. The Bar & Restaurant is open from 11am - 11pm Mon to Sat and 12 - 10.30pm on Sundays.

WHEATLEY ARMS, Wheatley Lane, Ben Rhydding, Ilkley, the long closed pub (renamed) opened on the 26 June. On Saturday 27 June Timothy Taylor Landlord (£3.15 a pint), Black Sheep Bitter and a Moorview beer was on sale. Landlord Nick is a CAMRA member.
Campaigners must be wondering why they bothered going to all the effort of saving this establishment when they see present exorbitant bar prices.

ALBERT, Bridge Street, Keighley: Ossett Brewery, who had taken the lease on this Timothy Taylor pub, have now departed. Details Keighley & Craven CAMRA's Alesman magazine, Summer 2009. The property returned to Taylor management on 1 June.
Sadly on some occasions, such as Sunday nights, the place could found empty of customers.

ILKLEY BREWERY, it appears Moorview Brewery are using this name for some of their beer. On Friday 19/6/09, Ilkley Brewery Olicana Gold was on sale at the Red Lion, Skipton, at £2.30 a pint.
CORRECTION
- Dave Robinson informs me "Olicana Gold is not brewed by Moorview but by Ilkley Brewery at Lencia Industrial Estate on East Parade, Ilkley."

HOPE & ANCHOR, Halifax Road, Keighley, the 'Alesman' reports that the pub is advertised both to let and freehold for sale. £145,000 is the reported asking price. The same publication also says the the Reservoir, West Lane, Keighley, is boarded up.

CANALSIDE, off Coach Street, Skipton, now has an upstairs bar area and house beer by Saltaire Brewery, details from Alesman.

KEIGHLEY & CRAVEN CAMRA Pub of the Year 2009, has been presented to Old White Bear, Cross Hills.

NAYLOR'S BREWERY, Midland Mills, Station Road, Crosshills,  has opened a Beer Emporium & Home Brew supplies shop. The company's bottled beers are available along with a wide range of foreign brews. Draught beer for 'off sales' is also on offer (samples can be had while browsing). These are available in different sized casks or 'bag in a box' with hand pump hire if required.

BRANCH, Bradford Road/Otley Road, Shipley, which is said to have the oldest licence in Shipley (1746), is under threat from the proposed scheme to ease road traffic in the Aire Valley, "Connect Airedale." A petition has been set up on the Facebook website, 'Save the Branch Hotel in Shipley'. The pub contains a rare Waller's Trafalgar Brewery anchor trademark entrance mosaic (shown above).

Grouse, Keighley Road, Silsden

GROUSE
, Keighley Road, Silsden,
recently a restaurant with small bar area, the property is now displaying a 'Terms Agreed' sign. Developments are once again awaited

ILKLEY BREWERY remains, close to the railway station, are under threat from the proposal by Tesco to build a new superstore on the site of Spooner's factory on Railway Road. The brewery tower still stands, but now with broken windows, and the painted Ilkley Brewery sign is now very faded.
The business was established in 1873 as The Ilkley Brewery & Aerated Water Co. Ltd; in 1923 Hammond's Bradford Brewery Co. Ltd; bought the business which then owned 37 pubs.

Tesco have now submitted a new planning application for a huge structure on the Railway Road site. Objections were to be in by 20th April.

COPPER DRAGON, Snaygill Industrial Estate, Keighley Road, Skipton.  Copper Dragon website

Copper Dragon, work on a new purpose-built £2.5m 120-barrel brewhouse, doubling output, has been completed.
Four state-of-the-art 60-barrel fermentation vessels, are the focal point of the new facility.
